William Hoggan Thomas Medallion

The William Hoggan Thomas Medallion, created by Michael Meszaros.

The Annual Exhibition 2009 opened on Wednesday 15th July at the Manningham Gallery 699 Doncaster Road, Doncaster.

The Exhibition is the highlight of our exhibiting year and a culmination of a year’s work when members are acknowledged and encouraged by the presentation of awards. There was a wonderful number of entries this year showing diversity in style, form, ideas, technique and medium.

Sculpture is displayed in three sections: the annual exhibition - works 1 to 30 - where any member may show one work, and the two prize sections:

The late Margaret Gunnersen will be remembered with her late husband William Hoggan Thomas by The Margaret Gunnersen & William Hoggan Thomas Award. The decision for this Award is made by members voting for their preference. This section - works 31 to 48 - is open to member sculptors with greater than ten years' exhibition experience.

The Tina Wentcher Sculpture Prize is open to sculptors with up to 10 years exhibiting experience - works 49 to 79. Three judges made up the judging panel: Savaad Felich, Michael Meszaros and Elaine Pullum. This prize is given on alternate years with the Andor Meszaros Prize.

These awards were presented at the official opening on Wednesday 15th July. The Exhibition was opened by Savaad Felich.

Unfortunately fire in the Council Building shortened our exhibition by a week. Fortunately we had photographed the work in the exhibition before disaster struck. The images are available on this link. At this stage the work is still in the gallery and we are unsure when it will be ready for removal. If you would like to be informed of progress or are interested in buying a work please contact Patrick Culshaw.

The people's choice vote will be awarded on the trend of votes cast while the exhibition was open. The artist's prize is product valued at $250.00 donated by Bulleen Art and Garden Centre and one lucky voter will win a box of assorted wine donated by Kooyonga Chapel Winery.
